To our students — past, present and future.

The current book is an adapted version of English Sentence Analysis: An introductory course. We decided to rename it to make our theoretical perspective — usage based linguistics and construction grammar — more clear to our colleagues and students.

The book has benefited a great deal from all the remarks our students have made over the course of many years. It is from their many questions and remarks that we have learned what they find so confusing but interesting about English Constructions. We thank them for their insights and hope this book can continue to serve as an introduction to English sentence constructions but also a constant companion book to return to, during their studies and beyond.
