Abstract
In this chapter we present two Slovak habitual expressions: the verbal suffix -va- and
the auxiliary zvyknúť. Examples extracted from the Slovak National Corpus were tested for the scopal
behaviour in terms of Functional Discourse Grammar. Although our conclusions mostly lean on modifier tests, tests with
operators and of complementation confirm that the two habitual strategies may be associated with two different scopal layers.
Examples of the cooccurrence of the strategies further confirm the scopal hierarchy.
