This paper investigates negation in the Mansi language. The language data are taken from a large number of sources: from folkloric texts, grammars, contemporary texts, newspaper articles, and a native speaker has also been consulted. The main purpose of the paper is to discuss the main morphosyntactic features of negation in a typological-functional framework. The paper describes in detail standard negation as well as the negation of other syntactical structures. Based on a large amount of data, it offers a detailed description of the morphosyntax and semantics of negation in today’s Mansi language, and investigates pragmatic questions of negation as well.
