The present chapter overviews the influences of language on memory and suggestibility. A relation between language and memory can be sought at different levels. The discussion first focuses on the general (non-specific) effects of language on autobiographical memory. Recent work from our lab on bilingualism and remembering the past and the imagining the future are reviewed. Secondly, the role of the specific aspects of language (e.g, evidentiality) on memory and suggestibility are examined. Findings from these studies are discussed in the light of Aksu-Koç’s pioneering work from the 1980s, and her current take on the language-cognition interface.
