There Is Always a Teller In a Tale

Abstract

This paper tracks down the translator's voice in the translated text; sees whether it can be included in a textual structure; and considers whether it can be regarded as part and parcel of a translated text, thus making the latter into something structurally different from an original text. The source is narrative texts, their translations, and the narratological approach to literature description.

Résumé

Cet article essaie de repérer la voix du traducteur dans les traductions. Il examine ensuite l'inclusion de cette voix dans la structure textuelle d'un texte traduit. Corrélativement, ce dernier diffère de son original sur le plan structural. Les exemples sont puisés dans des textes narratifs originaux et traduits, la démarche adoptée étant celle de la narratologie littéraire.
