This volume was preceded by a conference on Trends in Reading Research/Tendencias actuales en el estudio de la lectura (Taelec), held in Madrid in September 2013. We are extremely grateful to the National Distance Education University (UNED), especially to the Development and Education Psychology Department, for sponsoring and supporting this conference, as well as, MINNECO PSI2013-47219-P project. We are grateful to the authors who contributed chapters to this volume. Without the innovative work they have conducted in the different areas of reading comprehension, this volume would not have been possible. Thus we believe that the book presents a good example of the work on text comprehension reading research that is being conducted both in Europe and the United States. We particularly want to acknowledge Keith Rayner, who participated very actively to this conference. Keith passed away in January, 2015. This volume is in memory of him and his enormous contributions to our understanding of reading processes.
