The ten chapters contained in this volume are all based on papers presented at the 37th ICAME conference at the University of Trier in May 2015, and all but one of them at a pre-conference workshop on contrastive corpus linguistics convened by Signe Oksefjell Ebeling and Thomas Egan. Our thanks are therefore due first of all to the arrangers of the Trier conference, led by Sebastian Hoffman, for facilitating the holding of this workshop.
That we have been able to put together an edited volume is, of course, first and foremost due to the work carried out by our contributors. We are grateful for the papers they have submitted to the volume, containing what we think are significant contributions to the field, and for their cooperation and patience during the editing process. It has been a joy to work with them. Warm thanks are also due to the external peer reviewers who read the chapters so attentively and contributed so many valuable comments and suggestions.
Finally we extend our sincere thanks to the editors of the Studies in Language Companion Series, Elly van Gelderen and Werner Abraham for accepting this volume for publication in the series.
