We would like to thank our co-organizers of the ICAME 39 conference, Mark
Kaunisto, Minna Nevala, Päivi Pahta, Hanna Parviainen, and Paul Rickman for the smooth
running of the organization process, as well as the ICAME board for their support. Needless
to say, the conference was successful because of the contributions of all presenters,
chairs, workshop organizers, and other ICAMErs.
In the preparation of this volume, the expertise and time of the following peer
reviewers was invaluable: Gisle Andersen, Alex d’Arcy, Cristiano Broccias, Robert Fuchs,
Turo Hiltunen, Mark Kaunisto, Mikko Laitinen, María José López-Couso, Terttu Nevalainen,
Carol Percy, Peter Petré, Heike Pichler, Robert Poole, Marco Schilk, Erik Smitterberg, Tanja
Säily, Olga Timofeeva, and Rachelle Vessey. They more often than not went the extra mile in
giving insightful and expert comments on the manuscripts submitted, and the resulting papers
have greatly benefitted from the review process.
We also extend our gratitude to John Benjamins for including our volume in the
Studies in Corpus Linguistics series; Ute Römer and Kees Vaes, as well as
the rest of the team at Benjamins. Their support during the process has been invaluable.
Arja Nurmi’s contribution for editing this volume was financially supported by
the Academy of Finland funded project Democratisation, Mediatisation and Language
Practices in Britain, 1700–1950 (project number 295381).
