This volume is a selection of studies that were presented at the 1st PaCor 2016 International Conference “Parallel Corpora: Creation and Applications”, held in Santiago de Compostela, with December 1–3, 2016. For the financial support of the conference, thanks are due to the Public Research Agency of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
This volume is first and foremost the result of the enthusiastic, committed effort on the part of its contributors, who generously submitted their work to a strict process of peer review evaluation and editorial revision. We thank them for their patience and constructive spirit for the sake of the general coherence of this volume and for their contributions to an excellent work atmosphere.
Very special thanks are owed to Lixun Wang, Carme Colominas Ventura, Clara Pignataro, Victor Darriba Bilbao, Francisco José Ribadas Pena, Manuel Vilares Ferro, María del Mar Sánchez Ramos, Philippe Humblé, Miriam Seghiri Domínguez, Teresa Tomaszkiewicz, Guidor Bilbao Telletxea, Alberto Álvarez Lugrís, Jorge Leiva Rojo, María Calzada Pérez, Inmaculada Serón and Ciprian-Virgil Gerstenberger, who assisted us as external experts in the strict review and evaluation process for the selected papers. We very much appreciate their valuable comments and suggestions, which benefited the final selection of papers to be included here. Their detailed and very constructive report helped us to clarify many points and to improve the structure of the current volume. We are greatly indebted to them all.
Finally, we are deeply grateful to our series editor, Ute Römer, and to Kees Vaes at John Benjamins for their solid, professional support and helpful guidance in shaping this volume. Needless to say all remaining errors are ours.
