Putting together this volume has been challenging for both authors and reviewers. Some of the writing, and certainly most of the reviewing of the chapters, took place in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic that shook the world in 2020. We can only be immensely grateful to the authors and the reviewers that so generously provided their expertise and their time in such extraordinary circumstances. Some of the original chapters devised for this volume simply could not make it into the final volume; others saw their authors stricken by the pandemic in a variety of ways. To all of them, we offer our gratitude and our admiration for their commitment to deliver their best in the middle of the most devastating global crisis most of us have experienced. We are very grateful for the expertise of colleagues in the field who have taken the time to review the chapters in this volume and offered constructive critiques. We thank Svenja Adolphs, Graham Burton, Angela Chambers, Peter Crosthwaite, Niall Curry, Sandra Götz, Jiaqi Guo, Anne O´Keeffe, Jenny Liang, Mike McCarthy, Tom Rankin, Mike Scott, and Pawel Szudarski. We also thank the wonderful John Benjamins team for their understanding and willingness to help the editors in every possible way.
