This chapter gives an overview of bilingual first language acquisition in a PT context. It looks at the simultaneous acquisition of English and Japanese by a bilingual child raised in these two languages. The results of the longitudinal study discussed in this chapter provide strong empirical evidence for the “Separate Development Hypothesis” as put forward by De Houwer (1990). It will be shown that Processability Theory (PT) also accounts for this type of language acquisition.
