Abstract
In this work, we present the values and uses of
the Latin indicative perfect. Extremely sensitive to the adopted
enunciative point of view, this tense can be used as a preterite
and/or as a present perfect. Such an ambivalence, which could be a
force for a Latin translation of narration, is actually a weakness
for Camus’s novel The Stranger, mainly narrated in the French passé composé. This study deals with the narrative construction, and translation of Latin and French tenses.
