Syntagme prépositionnel dans les constructions de possession

Dans cet article nous allons analyser la construction infinitive c’est à x de faire y. Nous dédions notre intérêt à la fonction du syntagme prépositionel à x dans cette construction. Nous montrerons que cette construction exprime la possession ‘x a une tâche’ et la modalité déontique ‘x doit faire y’ et que l’interprétation modale provient du fait qu’une tâche appartient à x. La fonction de focus contrastif exprimé souvent dans la construction en question (c’est à x et pas à z de faire y) est lié à la fonction prédicative du syntagme prépositionel. Voilà pourquoi cette construction peut être considérée comme une sorte de clivée qui exprime souvent le focus (C’est à x qu’il appartient de faire y).
