The Dictionarius of Noël de Berlaimont, first published in Antwerp in 1530, had about 150 editions in over two centuries. It is a composite work consisting of two parts: a first section contains dialogues, examples of business letters and prayers; the second section is a bi- or plurilingual word-list, according to the different editions.
A few editions published in Flanders between 1556 and 1558 also include a short treatise on French orthography whose edition is here presented.
The interest of this work lies not only in the date of its compilation, but in the remarks on some persisting difficulties and incongruities of the French orthographic system.
