Resum
El català estàndard i els dialectes baleàrics es barregen d’una manera que s’adiu amb el concepte d’Auer (2005, 2011) de “contínuum diaglòssic”. Presentem com una confirmació d’aquest contínuum el fet que els parlants sovint trien opcions que desafien els intents normatius d’ajustar les formes dialectals a l’estàndard. El fenomen és especialment notable en una àrea en la qual els debats polítics sobre la identitat i la llengua pròpia tendeixen a complicar el passatge normal entre les diverses varietats de la mateixa llengua. Analitzem el paper de l’educació i dels mitjans de comunicació en la creació de la competència per a triar adequadament entre diversos registres formals de la llengua.
