El meu avi (My grandfather) is an excellent example of an audiovisual update of the literary tradition of biographies. Throughout its twenty six chapters, this series show us some of the most important Catalan figures of the twentieth century, with the aim of contributing to the formation of the Catalan national imaginary. The main peculiarity of the series is the emphasis on the view of the descendants, which tends to demystify the subjects of the biographies. Other remarkable features are its polyphony and the balance between information and assessment. Writers occupy a very important place in the selection of figures, and this paper will study some aspects of the construction of the image of writers as it passes through the filter of television.
