We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this volume, either directly or indirectly. Some of the papers included in this volume were first presented at the 14th International Pragmatics Conference, held in Antwerp, Belgium in 2015. The research group Uso e Processamento de Língua Adicional (UPLA, “Use and Processing of Additional Languages”), founded by Cristina Becker Lopes Perna and Karina Veronica Molsing in 2013 at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), organized a panel at this conference with a focus on the Portuguese language. This panel and its contributors were supported by grants from CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel) and FAPERGS (Research Support Foundation of Rio Grande do Sul). We would like to thank the participants at this conference who enriched the discussion with their insights and experiences.
Furthermore, we are grateful to the contributors, who have chosen this volume to showcase their research and who have promptly responded to all of our requests during the manuscript production process. We thank the linguistic experts who kindly agreed to act as reviewers for the chapters included in this volume. In alphabetical order, they are: Mailce Borges Mota, Leda Maria Braga Tomitch, Ana Rita Carrilho, Michael Child, Sérgio Duarte Julião da Silva, Jaydene Elvin, Onici Claro Flores, David Giancaspro, Eneida de Goés Leal, Lilian Cristine Hubner, Tiffany Judy, Ubiratã Kickhöfel Alves, Jared Linck, Ana Luiza Pires de Freitas, Ana Lúcia Santos, Lauren Schmidt, Maity Siqueira, and Bruna Sommer-Farias.
