Normative terminology management, its legal regulation and terminology work

The Lithuanian case

Abstract
Terminology policy in Lithuania is part of the standard Lithuanian language policy. The Lithuanian language policy, the issues of codification and standardization of the Lithuanian language are the concern of the State Commission for the Lithuanian Language. The chapter presents the legal basis of the Commission, its activities, and the main documents regulating language policy in Lithuania. The Term Bank of the Republic of Lithuania is administered by the State Commission for the Lithuanian Language. The chapter presents the legal regulation of the Term Bank, its concept, structure, and content.
The Institute of the Lithuanian Language is a state research institute, one of the fields of activity of which is the study of Lithuanian terminology and terminography and the analysis of the functioning of Lithuanian terminology of various fields in society. The chapter offers an overview of the research and practical work in terminology at the Lithuanian Language Institute since 1990.
The Lithuanian Standardization Department carries out standardization and management of standard terms. Since 2000, it has been developing a database of standardized terms, so the chapter sheds light on the management of Lithuanian terms of standards.
