Summary
The work of the Irish-born phonetician James Lecky (1855–90) has been unjustly neglected. A summary is given of his life and work, especially his work in phonetics, which covered descriptive phonetics, verse rhythm and phonetic notation.
Résumé
On a injustement laissé de côté l’oeuvre du phonéticien irlandais James Lecky (1855–90). Nous présentons un résumé de sa vie et ses travaux, en particulier dans le domaine de la phonétique. Lecky s’est intéressé surtout à la phonétique descriptive, au rythme poétique et à la transcription phonétique.
