Skizze zu einer Begriffsgeschichte

Zusammenfassung
Der von Wilhelm von Humboldt geprägte und von Heymann Steinthal Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts propagierte Begriff der Inneren Sprachform hat eine bewegte und von Diskontinuitäten geprägte Geschichte und eine äußerst vage und plastische Bedeutung. Der Text rekonstruiert einige Stationen dieser Begriffsgeschichte, mit Blick auf deren Brüche und Richtungswechsel. Besonderes Augenmerk gilt der Rezeption und der heuristischen Weiterentwicklung des Begriffs in den USA. Kontrastiert wird die US-Rezeption (in Sprachpsychologie, Spracherwerbsforschung und Ethnolinguistik) mit der zeitgleichen ideologischen Verwendung des Ausdrucks in der sprachnationalistischen deutschen Tradition.
Summary
Innere Sprachform (the inner form of languages) is a concept coined by Wilhelm von Humboldt and propagated by Heymann Steinthal in the middle of the 19th century, The conceptual history of the inner form abounds with discontinuities, reinterpretations, and various attempts to overcome the vague meaning of the expression. Some of the major disconitinuities in the use of the inner form are sketched, with a special focus on heuristic reinterpretations of inner form in US language theory. In contrast to the US-reception (in ethnolinguistics, language acqusition research and language psychology), German use of innere Sprachform at the same time is mostly ideological and belongs to the repertoire of linguistic nationalism.
Résumé
L’innere Sprachform (la forme interne des langues) est une notion forgée par Wilhelm von Humboldt et popularisée par Heymann Steinthal vers le milieu du 19e siècle. L’histoire conceptuelle de la forme interne est marquée par des ruptures, des réinterprétations, et diverses tentatives pour en dépasser le contenu vague. Certaines ruptures majeures ayant jalonné l’emploi de la forme interne sont présentées ici, avec une insistance particulière sur les réinterprétations heuristiques de la notion au sein de la théorie linguistique américaine. A la différence de la réception américaine de la forme interne (en ethnolinguistique, théorie de l’acquisition et psychologie du langage), la mise en œuvre allemande de l’innere Sprachform revêt un caractère idéologique et s’inscrit dans la veine du nationalisme linguistique.
