Readability Analysis of Community Translation

Abstract/Résumé
La lisibilité demeure un problème majeur quant à la qualité des traductions effectuées pour la communauté coréenne en Australie. L’auteur démontre que le problème qualitatif découle d’un déséquilibre dans l’attention accordée aux différents aspects du sens. Ainsi, une traduction parait maladroite et manquer de naturel quand le traducteur se concentre plus particulièrement sur la production d’un sens idéationnel (le contenu), plutôt que sur celle d’un sens interpersonnel (la relation entre l’auteur et ses lecteurs) et d’un sens textuel (le flux naturel d’informations). Deux courts textes sont analysés à titre d’exemple pour illustrer ce point, s’appuyant sur la théorie de la linguistique systémique fonctionnelle (SFL) de Michael Halliday. Les résultats d’une étude quantitative sont ici discutés pour vérifier l’argumentation basée sur cette théorie. Cet essai se termine sur un certain nombre de suggestions quant à la manière dont les chercheurs en traduction et les professionnels de la traduction peuvent collaborer. Ceci afin que soient partagées les responsabilités visant à améliorer la qualité de la traduction, en général, et de la qualité de la traduction communautaire, en particulier.
