Abstract/Résumé
Le titre d’un roman peut avoir plusieurs rôles: il peut identifier, fournir des renseignements et/ou attirer et plaire aux lecteurs potentiels. Cet article analyse les traductions de l’anglais vers plusieurs langues des titres des romans policiers d’Agatha Christie. Il tente d’identifier les procédures adoptées et d’évaluer à quel point les versions traduites arrivent à reproduire les qualités des titres originaux. Il examine et compare les techniques les plus répandues (traduction littérale, explicitation, réduction, changement de sens et remplacement) et essaie d’identifier certaines tendances générales qui relèvent des normes linguistiques et culturelles de la langue cible. Parmi les problèmes rencontrés, le traitement des éléments spécifiques à la culture anglaise, tels les noms propres et les allusions intertextuelles, pose des questions particulières.
