The article draws a theoretical framework to be used for the description of the translation strategies applied to the source text culture-bound terms. After a definition of the key-terms of the text – “culture” and “culture-bound terms” (in the following lines CBT) – and a discussion on their translatability, the text proposes a taxonomy which can be used for the description of all type of translation occurrence dealing with a CBT, and – in its final part – uses it for the description of some translation strategies, from different languages (English, French, German) into Italian.
