Abstract/Résumé
Cotranslation, which brings together one or more translators whose mother tongue is the source language and a reviser whose target language is the mother tongue, is rarely used in a largely circulated language. This process, on the other hand, is frequently used in countries where translation goes from a language with limited use to a more largely spoken one, and this is due to a lack of translators capable of carrying out this task from B to A. Though this cooperation seems a priori complicated, it undeniably offers advantages as it brings together the translator’s better understanding of the source text and the reviser’s easier detachment from the source text, the combination of which, in most cases, produces a rich and precise output. However, this process also has some inherent limitations: though the translator may understand all aspects of the source text, the translation he/she produces leaves something to be desired because of his/her incomplete command of the target language which is for him/her a “foreign language”. Also, an excessive detachment by the reviewer can cause dissimilarities and discrepancies between the original text and the rewritten one.
