The Use and Misuse of High Frequency Nouns in English Translations of Chinese Patent Abstracts

Abstract/Résumé
Cet article étudie la traduction anglaise de résumés du brevet en chinois avec l’exploitation d’un corpus parallèle spécialisé. L’emploi répétitif des mots tels que des nombres ordinaux, des quantificateurs, des syntagmes nominaux et de la terminologie ambiguë, provoquera la confusion et embrouillera la représentation de brevet. Basée sur les caractéristiques lexicales des textes de brevet, cette étude analysera la fréquence des mots, notamment celle de noms répétitifs, et examinera l’inévitabilité de ces séquences récurrentes. Le pléonasme s’est montré dans les textes traduits puisque l’omission de mots fréquemment répétitifs n’agissait pas sur le sens global. Trois usages de noms de base ont été identifiés au moyen de deux noms de base fréquents trouvés dans cette étude. L’omission du nom de base de manière à déterminer le changement de sens de mots confirme l’existence de pléonasme.
