Abstract
A case study of Sino-American cooperation in international Chinese language education: Thirty years of the Princeton-in-Beijing program
The Princeton-in-Beijing Summer Chinese Program (PIB) was established at Beijing Normal University in 1993
and has now been running for 31 years. In the field of international Chinese language teaching, PIB represents a pragmatic and
rigorous teaching approach. We do not follow foreign theories blindly, chase after trends, or pursue extremes. We believe that
proper pronunciation and articulation are prerequisites for cultural appropriateness, and that accuracy before fluency is the
fundamental principle of teaching Chinese.
