Abstract
“Grade descriptor” is the concentrated expression of theoretical basis and core content of Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education (hereinafter referred to as “Grading Standards”). This paper focuses on “speaking” among the five language skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating. This paper reviews the development theory of Grading Standards and introduces the development principle, descriptive perspectives, and validity verification results of “speaking” grade descriptors. Finally, combined with the actual situation of Chinese teaching in the United States, this paper puts forward some suggestions on the application of “speaking” grade descriptors in teaching and testing in the United States.
