Abstract
This chapter offers a survey of the most important literary texts composed in Hungary from the time of the
foundation of a Christian state (1000) to the end of the medieval kingdom, marked by the defeat at the battle of Mohács (1526).
The survey is structured according to genres, dealing with the Biblical meditations of St Gerard of Csanád, legends of local
saints, historiography, and sermon literature.
