A bachelor programme in interpreting

In this paper a brief overview is given of an interpreter-training programme in Utrecht, the Netherlands, which admits students who have no or very little prior knowledge of Sign Language of the Netherlands, Nederlandse Gebarentaal (henceforth: NGT). The paper will focus on the NGT and interpreting modules and on the assessment procedures developed within this programme. Special attention is paid to a description of the practice periods (in-service training) of the students in the final year of the study, and an example is given of the assessment lists that are used to observe students and their performance on a linguistic, a technical (interpreting skills) and a professional level.
