Abstract
This chapter discusses methodological issues related to the quantitative analysis of translations
in periodical publications and the possibilities to conjugate quantitative and qualitative approaches. I will propose
a model for a weighted analysis of translations in periodicals as well as the first results of its application on a
heterogeneous corpus of nine-teen Italian literary and political-literary periodicals of the post
Second World War period (1944–1970). Building on a systematical analysis of the networks of Italian periodicals, this
method takes into account some fundamental characteristics in the life of periodicals, and in particular their
diffusion and their symbolic capital in the literary field. It thus quantitatively measures qualitative phenomena.
