The origins of this book are to be found in the ‘Translation in Science – Science in Translation’ International Conference held at Justus Liebig University Giessen in 2017 organised in collaboration with the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC), the Giessen Graduate School for Humanities (GGK), the Giessen Centre for East European Studies (GiZo), the Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe – Institute of the Leibniz Association, the Department for Cultural Studies at the University of Rijeka, and the University of Granada.
The editors would like to express their gratitude both to the Research Project ‘Translation in Science – Science in Translation’ (‘La traducción en la ciencia – La ciencia en traducción’) (Proyectos de Investigación Precompetitivos para Jóvenes Investigadores’, Plan Propio de Investigación, University of Granada, PPJI2018-07) and to the Cost Action 18140 ‘People in Motion: Entangled Histories of Displacement across the Mediterranean (1492–1923)’, supported by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology), for the funding that has made the completion of this volume possible.
