Freundschaft und Liebe bei Platon und Plotin

Der Artikel fragt nach der Rezeption von Platons Freundschafts- und Liebesbegriff bei Plotin. Zunächst wird gezeigt, dass Platons Liebestheorie im Symposion und im Phaidros gleichermaßen auf den Aufstieg zum Ideenhimmel und die Selbstvervollkommnung des Liebenden abzielt, wobei der Phaidros mit der Freundschaft als schwächerer, durch Reziprozität gekennzeichneter Form der Liebe die soziale Dimension des Aufstiegs und der Vervollkommnung thematisiert. Dann wird nachgezeichnet, inwiefern Plotins Liebes- und Freundschaftsbegriff Theorieelemente aus Platons Symposion und Phaidros fortentwickelt. Nach Plotin ist die Liebe das Movens des Aufstiegs zum Einen und die Freundschaft das Movens des dazu komplementären Abstiegs zur Vielheit. Es wird schließlich gezeigt, dass Platon wie Plotin ausschließlich an der philosophischen Freundschaft und Liebe interessiert sind und diese zentral für ihr Konzept von Erziehung und Selbsterziehung sind.

This paper discusses Plotinus’ reception of Plato’s concept of friendship and love. First it argues that Plato’s concept of love both in Symposion and in Phaidros aims at the ascent to the ideas and the self-perfection of the lover, whereby the concept of friendship in Phaidros as a weaker form of love, characterized by reciprocity, thematizes the social dimension of ascent and perfection. Then it shows to what extent Plotin’s concept of love and friendship continues to develop theoretical elements from Plato’s Symposion and Phaidros. According to Plotinus, love is the movens of the ascent to the One and friendship the movens of the complementary descent to plurality. Finally, it argues that Plato and Plotinus are interested exclusively in philosophical friendship and love and that these are central to their concept of education and self-education.
