Applying systemic functional linguistics in translation studies

A research synthesis

Abstract
This paper takes a meta-analysis and synthesis approach to emphasize systemic functional linguistics’ contribution to translation studies. A coding book was designed to analyze 123 studies collected through email inquiry, database search, and manual examination. The paper reports on the substantive features and methodological features of the studies. Content analysis was presented on four major research themes: general translation, genre translation, interpreting, and translation training. After discussing the synthesis results, the paper is concluded with implications for future research.
Résumé
Cet article adopte une approche de méta-analyse et de synthèse pour souligner la contribution de la linguistique fonctionnelle systémique à la traductologie. Un livre de codage a été conçu pour analyser 123 études recueillies par le biais d’une enquête par courriel, d’une recherche dans les bases de données et d’un examen manuel. L’article présente les caractéristiques de fond et les caractéristiques méthodologiques des études. L’analyse du contenu a été présentée sur quatre grands thèmes de recherche : la traduction générale, la traduction de genre, l’interprétation et la formation à la traduction. Après l’analyse des résultats de la synthèse, l’article se conclut par des implications pour les recherches futures.
