A model of live interlingual subtitling using respeaking technology

This paper proposes a model of delivering live interlingual subtitling (LIS) as a formal translation and interpreting (T&I) service in Korea, replacing the existing model of combining stenographic transcriptions with simultaneous interpreting. The model proposes that these two processes, currently delivered by two different professional groups, should be converged using respeaking technology. As a means to supply relevant talent, the paper proposes that formal interpreting and translation schools should include respeaking using automatic speech recognition technology (ASR) as part of their training.

Cet article propose un modèle de production de sous-titrage interlinguistique en direct, en tant que service de traduction et d’interprétation (T&I) officiel en Corée, pour remplacer le modèle actuel qui combine transcription sténographique et interprétation simultanée. Le modèle propose de faire converger ces deux processus, actuellement réalisés par deux groupes professionnels distincts, en utilisant la technologie de sous-titrage vocal (respeaking). Afin de mettre les talents adéquats à disposition, l’article propose que les écoles d’interprétation et de traduction officielles incluent dans leur formation le sous-titrage vocal en utilisant la technologie de reconnaissance vocale automatique.
