Abstract
In the context of increasing demand and shrinking internal resources, the reliance on outsourcing appears to be a sensible approach in institutional translation. However, in the complex environment of multilingual law-making, working with external partners introduces additional risk factors. This article is an attempt to analyse this specific multiplayer situation and identify some practices which can guarantee sustainable quality performance, from the point of view of the middle manager in charge of in-house staff and workflow. The approach discussed focuses on improved communication with external contractors through a better information flow and enhanced feed-back.
Résumé
Dans le contexte d’une demande croissante et d’une diminution des ressources internes, le recours à l’externalisation semble être une approche sensée en matière de traduction institutionnelle. Toutefois, dans l’environnement complexe de l’élaboration de lois multilingues, la collaboration avec des partenaires externes entraîne des facteurs de risque supplémentaires. Le présent article tente d’analyser cette situation multidimensionnelle spécifique et d’identifier certaines pratiques qui peuvent garantir des performances de qualité durables, du point de vue d’un cadre intermédiaire, responsable du personnel interne et du flux de travail. L’approche envisagée se concentre sur l’amélioration de la communication avec les sous-traitants externes, grâce à un meilleur flux d’informations et un meilleur retour d’information.
