Introduction

One of the main things that this book tries to train you in is to use criteria for empirical research to evaluate the validity of other studies. In your own report you should always aim to go beyond a mere summary of previous research. This holds for papers, articles, and especially for theses or dissertations. In Chapter 6 we offered you instruments for critical evaluation of experimental work. To train you in the usage of terms like internal, external and conceptual validity you will find here exercises in “critical reading”.
