La traductologie emprunte beaucoup à d’autres disciplines, d’où le risque d’une terminologie incohérente avec multiplication de soi-disant synonymes (par ex. traduction*, adaptation*, localisation*), de la polysémie (par ex. culture, fonction, équivalence***), ou encore des concepts imprécis ou inexacts (par ex. similarité, système, texte, langue maternelle). Stratégie est l’un de ces termes ambigus de la traductologie : non seulement il est utilisé avec différents sens mais il semble être en concurrence avec une douzaine d’autres, comme procédures, techniques, opérations, changements, shifts, méthodes. A-t-on affaire derrière ces termes variés à une notion unique ou à diverses notions présentées par des termes synonymes ou quasi-synonymes ?
