O acoplamento do conceito de tradução – e, por extensão, de interpretação – com o conceito de história convida a abordar sua relação a partir de dois ângulos: o que a tradução pode significar para a compreensão da história, em particular das práticas culturais (política, ciência, religião, língua, mídia, literatura etc.)? Por sua vez, o que a história pode significar para a compreensão das múltiplas facetas da tradução (um processo, um produto, um tropo, uma instituição, uma teoria etc.)? Embora ambos os ângulos sejam sem dúvida interessantes o suficiente para serem estudados por si sós, o segundo será privilegiado aqui, sendo a história, desse ângulo, entendida como um ponto de vista específico aplicado à variedade de objetos materiais que compartilham o rótulo de “tradução”. Evidentemente, não é preciso lembrar que, como qualquer outro ponto de vista científico, o histórico opera uma redução metodológica do mundo real.
