Зміст

Дослідження перекладацьких універсалій виникло внаслідок збігу кількох чинників. Перший чинник – це давня думка про те, що переклади істотно відрізняються від інших текстів. Існує тривала традиція критики перекладів, що ті, буцімто, звучать неприродно, що призвело до появи терміну « перекладацька мова » або « транслейшенізм » (англ. “translationese”). І так само давно визнається, що деякі аспекти джерельного тексту та його значення чи стилю зазвичай « втрачаються у перекладі » (див. Стилістика та переклад (Stylistics and translation)). В основі обох цих традицій лежить припущення, що всякий переклад має спільні риси з іншими перекладами, оскільки інакше жодні узагальнення про типові недоліки перекладів з самого початку не були б можливі.
