La traduction est étroitement liée à la stylistique parce que la stylistique vise à expliquer comment un texte produit du sens plutôt que d’en expliquer seulement le sens. D’ailleurs, savoir comment les textes produisent du sens est essentiel à la traduction. La stylistique explique les plus fins détails d’un texte tel que pourquoi certaines structures sont ambiguës ou comment fonctionne une métaphore. De plus, elle sert à décrire autant les textes littéraires que les textes non littéraires.
