Повторний переклад (як продукт) позначає другий або черговий переклад одного й того джерельного тексту на одну й ту саму цільову мову. Повторне переклад(ання) або ретрансляція (як процес), таким чином, є явищем такого процесу і має місце протягом певного часу, але на практиці, позаяк існують також одночасні або майже одночасні переклади, буває іноді неможливо класифікувати один переклад, як перший, а інший – як другий. Деякі науковці в рамках концепції повторного перекладу говорять також про непрямий, або опосередкований переклад, та схоже, що таке звернення є не так корисним, як оманливим, і в цій статті ми називатимемо повторним перекладом лише множину перекладів.
