Корисною відправною точкою для вступу про цифрові гуманітарні науки (ЦГН) (Digital Humanities) та перекладознавство ( Translation studies*), звісно, буде визначення ЦГН, хоча воно виявилося одночасно і невловимим, і надзвичайно дискусійним. Цифрові гуманітарні науки є багатогранними, що швидко розширюються і постійно розвиваються, а це означає, що точне визначення важко дати і воно ризикує застаріти. У книзі Debates in the Digital Humanities (« Дискусії про цифрову гуманітаристику »), Лорен Клейн і Метью Ґолд (Klein and Gold 2016: np) посилаються на цей виклик, зазначаючи, що « поряд із цифровими архівами, кількісними аналізами та проєктами зі створення інструментів, які колись були характерними для цієї галузі, цифрова гуманітаристика сьогодні охоплює широкий спектр методів і практик: візуалізацію великих наборів зображень, об’ємне моделювання історичних артефактів, « народжені цифровими » дисертації, хештег-активізм та його аналіз, ігри з альтернативною реальністю, мобільні мейкерспейси та багато іншого. Під так званою « парасолькою » цифрових гуманітарних наук часом буває важко визначити, що саме передбачає робота з цифровими гуманітарними науками ».
