Terminology is a key element of every scientific discipline and professional field. Without an adequate terminological system, a language would face great difficulties in conveying conceptual knowledge and enabling expert communication, which would eventually threaten the functionality of the language in professional domains and could potentially lead to domain losses. Even though this may sound as an exaggeration, in today’s global dominance of English in all areas of life this threat may be real for languages of lesser diffusion (Piper 1998), spoken in countries that are economically, technologically and culturally dependent on the developed part of the world. The Serbian language is an example of such a language.
