Rise and fall — Lessons learnt: The Danish case

Over the years from the 1970s till around 2015, the Danish terminology community underwent a pretty continuous and successful development. Also, in this period of time, Danish terminologists were internationally recognised for their involvement in terminology activities such as ISO/TC 37, TermNet, and EAFT as well as for their practical and research results, e.g. the creation of terminology resources within the Danish financial sector as a case in point, and in particular in computational terminology. However, from 2015 on, this increase in terminology activities was followed by a rather sudden decrease. Thus, in this chapter, we seek to identify the key factors underlying the rise and in particular the fall of terminology in Denmark. In this way, we want to learn from the past and to share the lessons learnt with other terminologists for the benefit of future terminology activities.
