A dynamic and diverse terminological landscape: The Slovenian case

Table of contents

Today knowledge is more accessible than ever before. Language users have unimaginable quantities of information at their disposal, which makes it increasingly difficult to determine which information is relevant and reliable. Considering the strong global impact of English, which has long since become the modern lingua franca, terminology planning in national languages may even be more important today than it was decades ago. If small nations, such as Slovenian, with approximately 2.5 million speakers, want to retain access to knowledge in their native language and also have the ability to create new knowledge in this language, it is vital that experts of various specialized fields and other terminology users have access to high-quality terminology resources as well as readily available help with terminological issues, e.g., in the form of terminology consulting.
