This chapter examines the historical development and current practices of terminology planning in Hungary, emphasizing its institutional frameworks and present-day challenges. The chapter opens by discussing Hungarian language policy and its impact on terminology planning (Section 2). This section highlights how historical and contemporary policies shape terminology development within Hungary and across Hungarian-speaking communities abroad. Hungarian is spoken in eight countries in the Carpathian Basin (Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Austria), which further influences terminology planning and standardization efforts. The chapter then delves into the traditions and methods of terminology creation in Hungary, examining the tools, principles, and practices that have influenced the field over time (Section 3, 4, and 5).
